To date, we have cultivated approximately 12 million seedlings and saplings which have been supplied to forest reserves, communities and individuals in Ghana and Togo for the purposes of afforestation, alley cropping, ornamentation, and medicine.

Now, we are scaling up our efforts, undertaking a massive reforestation campaign with a goal of planting 25 million trees by 2025 in tropical forests, restoring and expanding forest reserves across Ghana, Togo, and Benin.

Alley cropping is planting rows of trees at wide spacings with a companion crop grown in the alleyways between the rows. Alley cropping can diversify farm income, improve crop production and provide protection and conservation benefits to crops.

The Hohoe District Assembly has asked NED Africa to do alley cropping along farming communities in the district. These trees provide wind shade for farmers whose crops—particularly bananas, plantains, papaya, and maize—are vulnerable to destruction by the strong perennial Harmattan winds that come in mid-February.

NED Africa has also provided alley cropping for farmers who farm along the Yikpa-Denyie Mountains in Togo, also to create wind shade for their crops during the Harmattan season.[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]
